Location:

SUP lessons, tours and activities are held at Lake Tisza, set in the Hortobágy National Park.    It is only 1.5 hours drive from Budapest and is the largest artificial lake in Hungary covering 127 square kms, is 27 kms in length, with a large number of small islands.

It is a popular tourist destination, with excellent tourism facilities. In 1999, Hortobágy National Park, was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and has a diversity of birds (over 200 species), plants and animals.

There are ideal conditions for stand up paddling. Have SUP lessons at the SUP Bázis school located in a sheltered place on the lake.   There is a range of SUP tours to explore the lake, its Islands and numerous small bays.  SUP marathons and races are held in other parts of the lake and river.

It is a wonderful place to experience stand up paddling, to see wildlife as you paddle along and enjoy being in scenic natural surroundings.

“Not everyone thinks the same way about SUP (stand up paddleboarding) or paddling. According to the conviction of the founders of SUP Bázis, SUP is a sports equipment and NOT a beach accessory.

In accordance with our creed, acquiring the necessary safety and technical knowledge is essential before venturing onto the water with rented or even personal equipment. Accordingly, SUP Bázis Sport Club can only provide access and/or equipment to applicants/visitors/guests who have participated in at least a basic SUP training. This includes the mandatory use of a life jacket and leash (ankle leash), as well as adherence to the load capacity of the board (recommended and not the maximum load!) – for your safety, no exceptions. However, no matter how hard we try, it is impossible to fully assess the physical abilities of every new guest in advance, so please only sign up for SUP Bázis Sport Club advertised tours if you have already participated in an accredited SUP training or one of our previous SUP tours and have applied the basic elements and are aware of your own abilities!

If based on the above you are still unsure whether this Club is the right fit for you, we kindly ask you to explore our website or contact us BEFORE you embark, and we’ll be happy to answer your questions!

We welcome you with love!

No, you don’t. It’s not necessary to have skateboarded, wakeboarded, or surfed before. Basic everyday fitness is sufficient, meaning you can get up from a kneeling position on dry land.

Everyone receives a life jacket and leash, so outstanding swimming skills are theoretically not necessary, but water safety and a love for water are essential. Those who venture into the water may get wet.

No and no. At most, it’s hard to imagine. But, like everything, it’s all in the mind. If you follow the instructions discussed during the training, then there should be NO problem during practice. It’s important to know that you can paddleboard/paddle sitting, kneeling, or even sitting in a wheelchair. No expectations! Get on the board! Any way you like!

Apply sunscreen before departure, not right before boarding, as this would leave your palms oily and slippery.

Depending on the current weather, it’s advisable to dress in layers and sportswear. We recommend wearing a swimsuit underneath and a UV/windproof top on top. Wear a hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, a warm top, and sporty long or short pants (cycling outfits work perfectly).

Then, you’ll also need:

  • Charged phone
  • Water bottle to refill. Please do not bring disposable plastic bottles!
  • Use of a life jacket and leash is mandatory
  • Photo ID
  • Mosquito repellent.

If you happen to forget any equipment at home, don’t worry; you can rent anything you need for the tour from us!

If you’d like your best friend to join you, sign up as soon as possible, let’s coordinate in advance, and then we can properly prepare for your arrival with your dogs. Especially if they are well-behaved and enjoy/understand the waterfront/water.
And since you’re already a pro, we’re happy to help you and your furry friend get accustomed and eventually paddleboard together on the board and on the water. If you’re coming for dog-friendly training, please let us know your request in advance.

From our experience, this sport is almost ageless. It can be enjoyed from a standing child to infinity. Among the members of SUP Bázis, the two age record holders are 7 and 75 years old. They paddleboarded well and enjoyed it.
